The 1995 movie Hackers originally referenced “The Da Vinci Virus”. This film features a team of hackers dodging police and engaging in a futuristic in a cyberwar. All manners of artistic techniques are used to provide moviegoers with a sci-fi themed glimpse into the art of hacking; to include riding a skateboard through a 3D representation of a network.  I have nothing but love for this cult classic film. However, this site aims to usurp the movie’s mystical depiction of hacking with real world examples.

Mission Statement

There is a fairly steep learning curve in the cyber security industry. This unfortunately leaves the novice security professional with an inability to truly discern the impact of their engineering decisions. Ideally, this resource will provide applicable examples which help simplify comprehension of technical challenges.

Secure Coding

All of a network’s safeguards are undermined if the system owners install vulnerable software on their assets. This site will detail secure coding techniques to countermeasure the self inflicted wound of insecure software. Realistic examples will be provided for both coding flaws and the their exploitation. Furthermore, the site will detail risk mitigation techniques which can be applied after the inevitable discovery of vulnerabilities in mature software.

Red Teaming

The art of simulating an attacker is thrilling. Popular thought leads us to conclude that these anti-heroes are paid to “pwn all the things”. In reality, these elite cyber security professionals instead strive to improve their network defender counterparts. Companies invest vast sums of money in cyber security: network devices, software, and manpower. A skilled red team is one of the most effective means to independently assess the validity of that investment. This site demystifies the tactics, techniques, and procedures used by the modern adversary; aiding both the novice red teamer and network defender.
